On behalf of the Governing Board, allow me to offer you a very warm welcome to Leopold Primary School. As Chair of Governors, I have a responsibility to the children, parents and staff of Leopold to ensure that the school works to its full potential and harnesses the talents and abilities present in all parts of the school community.
What we do as Governors is support the Headteacher’s vision and give the senior leadership team an outside eye on the way the school is run. We also contribute our experience from other industries and walks of life to the school. The Governing Board and I are very proud of the achievements of Mrs Kendall, the senior leadership team and all the staff here at Leopold School.
Leopold is a school in the heart of a thriving multicultural community, situated in one of the most successful and diverse capital cities in the world. And what’s thrilling about Leopold is the way in which it reflects the culturally rich and complex world around it. If we can make education work for all in a diverse and integrated school like Leopold, we can make it work anywhere.
Communication is central to the Leopold ethos. We have many children in our family who have English as another language. Yet even in instances where children have arrived at school speaking only their native tongue, within weeks they are happily being taught and chatting to their classmates in English.
Both my children attended Leopold from Nursery to Graduation, and throughout their time here, Mrs Kendall and the staff promoted the idea of children as leaders. The Leopold philosophy is that no matter where our children find themselves in life, if they are educated, play to their strengths and do their best, then they can live as champions.
We, the Board, support the school in this continuing work. And when the Governing Board and the senior leadership team strive for Leopold’s success, we aren’t just doing it for the school. We’re working to support local education and help our children strive for the best lives they can experience.
Leopold School has a brand new motto for this year, and that is “Inspiring today’s learners to become tomorrow’s outstanding leaders”. With the support of all parents, staff, children and Governors, I have faith that we can live up to that motto.
I wish you all a happy and successful year.
